Not far from the marketplace is the only survival of the castle Hettstedt: an about 17 m high and nearly 8 m thick round tower, the keep. The barons of Arnstein built this castele from 1204 till 1224 as protection of the mining. During the 30-year long war , 1618 - 1648, the castle was damaged gravely. Since 1650 the castle ruin was used as a brewery. In 1967/68 the demolition of the castele ruins took place to build the bus station. |
