Hettstedt

The castle ruin is located on the outskirts of Harkerode on a precipitous mountain. It’s one of the biggest medieval castles in the Harz mountains (can be reached from the car park between Sylda and Harkerode.

The castle is about 8 km away from Hettstedt on a ledge above Mansfeld.

High above the Selketal the romantically situated castle arises with considerable battlements of the 12th - 15th century. The castle is a great destination for a day trip. The castel is a destination on the "street of Romanesque".

The abbey is just 10 km from Hettstedt in Klostermansfeld. The minster built in the Saxon - Romanesque architectural style is situated along the "street of Romanesque" and can be by car (B 242) or train (railway station Klostermansfeld).

In Molmerswende, about 30 km from Hettstedt, is the birth house of the Münchhausen`s author. In 1968 a museum was furnished in it, which was restored on the occasion of the writers 200^th birthday in 1994. It informs citizens about life and work by means of numerous texts and pictures.

Today the Novalis - castle in Wiederstedt serves as a museum. Events take place all year round and rooms can be booked.
